PRIMER DÍA DE JOB SHADOWING EN EL COLEGIO BEKIR SAMI DEDEOGLU DE ESTAMBUL

Por fin llegó el día y comenzó nuestro jobshadowing. A las 9h nos ha recogido nuestra anfitriona para acompañarnos al colegio.

Allí nos esperaban un grupo de niños vestidos con trajes tradicionales de Turquía y un gran display con las banderas y mapas de nuestros respectivos países. 

Tras este cálido recibimiento, nos hemos reunido en el despacho del director con el equipo directivo (director más Assistant Principals) y las maestras de inglés del colegio y hemos intercambiado información sobre nuestras respectivas escuelas: funcionamiento, organización, horarios, coordinaciones, etc. Esta charla nos ha parecido muy interesante porque hay aspectos de la organización que compartimos y otros que nos diferencian. Por ejemplo, hay dos turnos de clases de infantil, los maestros no se reúnen para coordinar porque no tienen horario complementario.

Este colegio público escolariza alrededor de 2000 alumnos entre los 5 y los 10 años, comienzan en pre-escolar hasta cuarto curso, momento en el que se van a secundaria. El claustro está formado por aproximadamente 60 maestros, de los cuales 3 son especialistas de inglés.

Entre té y té, nos han enseñado, muy amablemente, las instalaciones del centro y hemos visitado diferentes clases. Podemos resumirlo en una única palabra (y con mayúsculas): ESPECTACULAR.

Más tarde, hemos acompañado a Suhleyha en su clase de inglés de tercero donde hemos comprobado que los alumnos tienen una participación muy activa en el aula: 41 alumnos que comparten pupitre por pares y distribuidos en doble fila.

Tras una pausa para comer, hemos vuelto a clase, esta vez con Sema y hemos observado un estilo diferente de enseñanza.

Para acabar la jornada, Pinar, Burcu y el director nos han llevado al mirador Lotti para admirar el Bósforo desde una colina y visitar una importante Mezquita en El Barrio de Eyüp.

Terminada la jornada de hoy en nuestro colegio turco, hemos seguido conociendo esta impresionante ciudad. Hoy hemos visitado la Plaza Taksim, la Torre Gálata y hemos dado un paseo por la parte Europea Moderna de Estambul aprovechando el fantástico tiempo que hacía. No deja de dejarnos fascinadas la magia y el encanto de esta ciudad, su historia, cultura, gastronomía, la grandiosidad de sus Mezquitas, la amabilidad de su gente. 

Time to start our jobshadowing at last! Around 9 a.m. we have been picked up by our great host Pinar to drive us to the school. There, a group of children wearing traditional Turkish outfits, awaited for us under a big display with flags and maps of both countries: Turkey and Spain.

After this warm welcome and staff introduction, we have been talking to the administration team: Principal and one Principal Assistant (out of three) and the three English Teachers about some issues such as school organization, timetables and similarities and differences between our two schools. This talk has been very interesting. 

For instance, There are two turns at pre-school. They share the classroom but one group goes to school in the morning whereas the other one goes in the afternoon; teachers don’t meet regularly as they finish duty at the same time students do, so they don’t stay at school longer than pupils. They plan at home. 

This state school enrollment is around 2000 children from 5 to 10 years old. The first stage takes from pre-school to fourth grade, and then they leave to Secondary School.

The faculty is composed by 60 teachers, 3 of them are English specialists who only teach English subject. 

Between tea and tea, we have been shown the school facilities very kindly. We must summarize it in only one word, but in capital letters: SPECTACULAR.

Later, we have accompanied Züleyha in her 3rd grade English lesson where we have seen how active students are. There were 42 kids sharing desk in twos distributed in two rows due to the amount of them.

After a break for lunch with the faculty in the teachers room, we have gone, this time, with Sema to observe a different teaching style. 

To finish our school day, we have been driven to Pierre Lotti viewpoint to admire the Bosphorus from the hill and visit an important Mosque walking around Eyüp neighborhood. 

Finished our day at our Turkish school we have continued our Istanbul tour visiting a crowded Taksim Square, Galata Tower and crossing the Gálata Bridge under a great weather.

We are amazed by this magic and charming city, its history, culture, gastronomy, the magnificence of its mosques and, of course,  its people kindness.
